Tips for those looking for housing in Slovakia or Poland

In 2022, finding affordable housing in EU countries was quite difficult. Due to the arrival of millions of refugees from Ukraine, demand for rent, as well as prices, have increased significantly. However, at that time, Ukrainians could get temporary free housing in shelters or in the homes of caring Europeans. Our fellow citizens also received compensation for housing rent.

Currently, in many countries, for example, in the Czech Republic, such compensations have been reduced or are not paid at all, and in Slovakia they will stop paying them from June 30. Therefore, the search for affordable housing remains a very urgent problem for Ukrainians in Europe.

On the other hand, some of the refugees have already returned home or settled. Demand on the rental market of EU countries has stabilized, as a result – prices for rented accommodation have started to decrease in some places.

There are many thematic groups on Facebook, where there is useful information about the life of Ukrainians in various EU countries. There are even profile communities that specialize in one topic – job search or the same housing rental. Just join the group and read the announcements. They can be placed both by those who are looking for housing and by those who rent it out. In addition, in such communities you can find companions to rent an apartment or a room together.

Look for groups with a large number of members – there are, of course, more ads. If you already understand Slovak or Polish well, you can join groups where residents of a particular city rent out apartments. Every city or town usually has several such Facebook communities.
