Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump had a telephone conversation following Steve Witkoff’s visit to Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and US President Donald Trump conducted telephone conversation following the visit of US special representative Steve Witkoff to Russia.

“I spoke with President Trump. This is a conversation after President Trump’s representative Steve Witkoff was in Moscow. Our joint position with our partners is absolutely specific, it is absolutely transparent – the war must be ended. And do it honestly. It is very important to do it honestly. European leaders were on the call – I am grateful to everyone for their support.

We discussed what was happening in Moscow. It seems that Russia is now more committed to a ceasefire, the pressure on them is starting to work. We proposed that in the near future our representatives – of Ukraine and partners, our security advisors – will speak to define our position, our common position and our common view.” Zelensky said.

According to the governments of Great Britain and Germany, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer and Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz joined the telephone conversation between Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Donald Trump. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte was also involved in the discussion.

This is the second conversation between Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Donald Trump in two days: on August 5, they discussed the issue of ending the war, the possibility of new sanctions against Russia, and further military support. In addition, the President of Ukraine informed that Kyiv has prepared a draft agreement with Washington on cooperation in the field of drone technologies.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump noted, that special envoy Steve Witkoff’s talks with Vladimir Putin “made great progress”:
