Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the arrival of the German IRIS-T air defense system in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in his evening video message confirmed transfer of the sixth IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile complex from Germany to Ukraine.

“We have now returned from Brussels with new agreements on air defense. Also, Germany has already handed over the additional IRIS-T system. Thank you.” he said.

Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed his gratitude to other partners who are helping to strengthen Ukrainian air defense in response to massive shelling by Russia.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Berlin handed over another IRIS-T SLM (Medium Range) system to Kyiv and plans to hand over two more IRIS-T SLS systems designed for shorter-range defense by the end of the year.

IRIS-T SLM is a medium-range anti-aircraft and anti-aircraft missile complex developed by the German company Diehl Defense. It uses IRIS-T missiles aimed at destroying aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles.
