Zelensky arrived in the Philippines (video)

Today, June 3, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi arrived in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, where he met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“I am grateful to the Philippines for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, for a clear position regarding Russia against our country, as well as for supporting important UN resolutions.”, – he emphasized.

Cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres became the main topics of discussion. Noting the support of the Philippines in the cause of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, Zelenskyy thanked the country for its active support of Ukraine in international organizations, in particular for its support of UN resolutions related to the war in Ukraine.

Special attention was paid to the Global Peace Summit regarding Ukraine. Both leaders confirmed the importance of the active participation of Southeast Asian countries in this event to ensure stability and peace in the region.

On the economic front, the possibilities of increasing trade and economic ties between Ukraine and the Philippines were discussed. In particular, the parties discussed the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to the Philippines.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of opening the Ukrainian embassy in Manila this year, which will contribute to the further strengthening and development of bilateral relations.

Diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Philippines were established on April 7, 1992, but their friendship and partnership have a wider range of relations covering various aspects of the life of both countries. An important indication of the strength of these relations is the support of the Philippines to Ukraine in international affairs, in particular during the voting at the UN.

As of May 2024, according to the Bureau of Immigration of the Republic of the Philippines, there are about 95 Ukrainians living in the country, who create an active community and promote rapprochement between the two peoples.
