Denmark announced its readiness to send peacekeepers to Ukraine

The Danish government and parliament reached an agreement on the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine to facilitate the future peaceful settlement. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, informs DR.

“It’s important that we in Europe send the right signals to both Putin and Washington. That’s what we’re doing today, saying, ‘If it comes to the point that a ceasefire or a peace agreement will require a European presence, Denmark is in principle ready to do that.'” – said Rasmussen.

The heads of the Danish Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defense met with members of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy, where they presented the government’s position on sending troops to Ukraine and secured the support of the majority of parliamentary parties.

At the same time, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen emphasized that there are still no real plans to send troops to Ukraine:

“We have not made a decision to make a specific commitment. It will depend on how events develop. So this is due diligence.”
