Zelensky introduced a bill on a military ombudsman to the Verkhovna Rada.

May 8, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi entered to the Verkhovna Rada draft law No. 13266 on the introduction of the post of military ombudsman.

“A person and his rights and freedoms as the main value is what fundamentally distinguishes us from the enemy and what will ultimately help us win”, – noted the President’s Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Servicemen Olga Reshetylova.

According to her, representatives of civil society also worked on the preparation of the draft law.

According to the document, the military ombudsman and his deputies will be appointed by the president of Ukraine. The creation of the Office of the Military Ombudsman is foreseen as an auxiliary body under the head of state, which will perform the functions of civilian democratic control in the security and defense sector, in accordance with the Law “On National Security of Ukraine”.

The draft law contains provisions on the procedure for submitting and considering complaints from military personnel, regulates the mechanism of inspections in military units and institutions in case of violation of the rights of military personnel, and also determines how the ombudsman will interact with other state institutions and provide conclusions.
