Zelenskyi spoke at the UN General Assembly: main points of the speech (video)

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi spoke at a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council in New York, where he clearly outlined the conditions for ending Russian aggression against Ukraine. He emphasized that the war will not end until Ukraine restores its territorial integrity and ensures the right to self-defense guaranteed by the UN Charter.

Zelensky noted that Russia constantly resorts to deception and disinformation to justify its actions, and therefore has no right to refer to the UN Charter to justify its crimes against the Ukrainian people. He also emphasized the importance of holding the second Peace Summit aimed at achieving a just peace in Ukraine, and invited all countries of the world to join this process.

“Our Ukrainian right to self-defense must prevail. Our cooperation with the peoples of the world who value life as much as we do. Our territorial integrity. Our sovereignty, the independence of our country. We are defending what every nation would certainly like to defend for itself. And what the UN Charter guarantees for everyone”, – noted Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

The president also talked about the cynical actions of Russia, which is preparing to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, including nuclear power plants, as winter approaches.

“They are preparing to attack our nuclear power plants, three of them, we have this information and we have evidence of this. If Russia is willing to go that far, it means that none of the things you value matter to Moscow. This kind of Russian cynicism will continue to strike if he is given any place in the world”, – he noted.

The head of state called on the international community to act as a united front and not allow Russia to continue the war. He emphasized that the Peace Formula proposed by Ukraine in 2022 is based on the principles of the UN Charter and is aimed at making this organization more effective.

“There is only one way to a just peace – clear steps that everyone understands equally, and this is reflected in the Peace Formula. This is the implementation of the UN Charter. And we all know what needs to be done if we honestly assess the situation and really want to stop Russia’s war. And most importantly – to act. Together, of course. Without creating new and unnecessary divisions of the world into blocs or regional groups, unity always works in favor of peace.”, – emphasized Zelensky.

The President noted that there are no separate versions of the UN Charter for different regions or countries. The Unified Charter should apply without exception to all states, regardless of their political or economic influence. He called for unity in achieving peace, without creating new divisions into blocs or interest groups.

Zelensky also emphasized the need to hold the second Peace Summit and invited all countries that respect the principles of the UN Charter to participate.

“We invite China, Brazil, India and all other countries — Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other regions. They are all equally important to the achievement of peace, without exception, as is the UN Charter.”, he emphasized.

The President concluded his speech by saying that the path to true peace is already known.

“Everyone is equally important to peace. Everyone. No exceptions. Just like the UN Charter should work without exceptions. This is the process that will lead us to peace. To a just peace. A real peace. A peace that will last. We all already know how to achieve it. We have the UN Charter and we have all the power to implement it.”, – said the President of Ukraine.
