445 Ukrainian athletes and coaches overstayed their stay abroad: Ministry of Sports

Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine reported, that since the beginning of martial law, 445 athletes, coaches and members of the sports staff have exceeded the permitted period of stay abroad.

“In 2024, the Ministry of Sport sent 2,763 letters to the State Border Service of Ukraine regarding assistance in crossing the border by athletes, coaches and sports personnel to participate in sports competitions.” – the message says.

As of January 13, violations of return deadlines were recorded in 445 cases. At the same time, the Ministry of Sports noted that among the participants of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, there were no cases of non-fulfillment of obligations to return to Ukraine in a timely manner.

According to preliminary data, from 2022 to February 2024, the ministry sent 4,760 requests to the Border Service to cross the border to participate in sports competitions. During this period, 317 people also overstayed their stay abroad.
