A curfew has been imposed in Los Angeles due to mass riots

The local authorities of Los Angeles introduced a curfew in the center of the city, where massive protests by migrants continue. The reason was the looting of protest participants. About this informs CNN.

Mayor Karen Bass said during a press conference that the restrictions will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. Tuesday to 6:00 a.m. Wednesday local time. The curfew in the city is already in effect and started at 06:00 Kyiv time. The restrictions will cover less than 100,000 people out of 4 million residents of Los Angeles.

The mayor’s office also released a schedule of the curfew zones in the center of the Californian capital. An estimated 23 businesses were looted in downtown Los Angeles during anti-immigration protests this week, City Hall said. Bass specified that this “violent behavior” became one of the reasons for the introduction of restrictions.

“The curfew has been under consideration for several days. However, after the violence that happened last night – 23 shops were looted – and simply because of the scale of the vandalism, we have reached a tipping point.” – she explained.

According to the police, the suspects robbed Adidas stores, an Apple Store, two dispensaries, a pharmacy and a jewelry store.

We will remind, at the end of last week, mass protests began in several areas of Los Angeles due to the wave of arrests of migrants carried out by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). To quell the unrest, President Donald Trump decided to send 2,000 National Guard soldiers and several hundred Marines to the city. This decision was made without the approval of the governor of the state, Gavin Newsom.
