In France, the leader of the centrist party became the new Prime Minister
On December 13, French President Emmanuel Macron appointed a new Prime Minister. He became the leader of the centrist party “Democratic Movement” François Bayrou. About this reported press service of the Elysee Palace.
François Bairou leads the Democratic Movement party and has many years of experience in French politics. He previously held the position of Minister of Justice and was the mayor of the city of Pau in the south-west of France. Bayrou is also a longtime Macron ally and confidant since coming to power in 2017.
The appointment caused mixed reactions among opposition parties. The Communist Party of France called this step “bad news”, and the “Unconquered France” party has already announced its intention to pass a vote of no confidence in the new prime minister.
This was preceded by the resignation of the previous government. In early December, the French parliament passed a vote of no confidence in the cabinet, after which Prime Minister Michel Barnier resigned. This was the result of his decision to use Article 49.3 of the Constitution to pass the budget bypassing parliament, which drew criticism from the opposition.
