A high-profile resignation: Andriy Kostin resigns as Prosecutor General of Ukraine

On 22 October, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin announced his resignation. This decision is related to the scandal that erupted over the investigation of cases of illegal receipt of disability status by 50 prosecutors in Khmelnytsky region.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The official announced his decision after a meeting of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where the morally unacceptable situation with fake disabilities received by civil servants was discussed.
What is known about disability registration by prosecutors in Khmelnytskyi region?
Materials have been made public stating that 49 prosecutors in Khmelnytskyi region have been granted the status of disabled. The former head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Centre for Medical and Social Expertise, Tetiana Krupa, and her son Oleksandr Krupa, who headed the regional department of the Pension Fund, could have been involved in this.
In response to this information, Andriy Kostin signed an order to conduct an internal investigation. The inspection covers all prosecutor’s offices in the country.
Commenting on the situation, Marina Tysyachna, a spokeswoman for the Khmelnytsky Regional Prosecutor’s Office, said that details about the disabilities of prosecutors and their families could not be disclosed due to the confidentiality of medical data.
In addition, following this information about the Khmelnytsky prosecutors, the Prosecutor General’s Office initiated the creation of a working group to investigate corruption in medical and social expert commissions.
