A man threatened to detonate a grenade in a shopping center in Kharkiv

There was an incident in Kharkiv that almost ended in tragedy. A 33-year-old local resident returned to one of the shopping and entertainment centers of the city with a grenade in his hands and began threatening to explode it. The law enforcement officers managed to react in time – the man was promptly detained.
As reported informs police of the Kharkiv region, the incident unfolded after a quarrel between two unknown men. The verbal conflict, which seemed like it could end without serious consequences, turned into an attempt at intimidation with a weapon.
According to the information released by the law enforcement officers, the participant in the dispute decided to return to the scene with “more convincing arguments” — he took a live grenade and ignited it at home. With this weapon, he appeared in the shopping complex and began to threaten those present to detonate the F-1 grenade right there.
Thanks to the joint actions of operatives and patrolmen, the man was quickly neutralized and detained. As it turned out, he is a resident of Kharkiv, who has already had numerous problems with the law – he was previously tried for property crimes.
After the arrest, the police conducted a search warrant at his home. As a result, another combat grenade was discovered there, which only strengthened the validity of suspicions regarding the illegal storage of explosives.
The law enforcement officers informed the perpetrator of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – the first part of article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) and the fourth part of article 296 (hooliganism).
Both articles provide for severe punishment: for the offense committed, the man faces up to seven years of imprisonment.
