During the war in Ukraine, 147 artists and 95 media workers died: Ministry of Culture

As a result of Russian aggression, Ukraine lost 147 artists and 95 media workers. Among them are 7 foreign journalists who covered events for a global audience. About this reported Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.

“The war took the lives of 147 Ukrainian artists and 95 media workers. These data not only show the scale of losses, but also remind us of the tragic pages of our history. Just as in the 20s and early 30s of the 20th century, the Stalinist regime destroyed a generation of Ukrainian artists , and today Russia is purposefully destroying the cultural elite of Ukraine.” – the message says.

The ministry compared these losses to the period of the “Shot-shot revival”, when the Soviet authorities liquidated a whole generation of prominent Ukrainian cultural figures. The modern war is once again taking away from the country talented people who formed and enriched Ukrainian culture.

Separately, the ministry emphasized the danger faced by journalists working in conditions of constant risk. Russia’s systematic crimes against media representatives undermine freedom of speech, human rights and information security.
