The Cathedral District Court of the city of Dnipro sentenced the serviceman to seven years in prison with the confiscation of all his property for the illegal appropriation of 2.4 million hryvnias, which were mistakenly transferred to his account by the military unit. The incident happened at the end of 2024. As a result of a technical error by the employees of the military unit, the senior soldier was charged more than 2.4 million hryvnias instead of 24.6 thousand hryvnias. After receiving the funds, the soldier decided not to return them. He spent more than a million hryvnias through non-cash payments, after which he voluntarily left his place of service. Law enforcement officers managed to find him only two months later and bring him back to the unit.
During the trial, the accused admitted his guilt, repented and announced that he voluntarily returned the balance – 1.5 million hryvnias – to the account of the military unit.
The court issued a verdict: imprisonment for seven years with confiscation of all property. It is also forbidden for a man to hold positions that involve the performance of organizational and managerial or administrative and economic duties for three years. In addition, the court satisfied the civil lawsuit — almost 900,000 hryvnias of material damages will be collected from the accused in favor of the military unit.
