Restrictions on the sale of alcohol in the evening have been lifted in Ukraine
In Ukraine, restrictions on the sale of alcohol in stores in the morning and evening hours, which were introduced by local authorities during martial law, have been lifted. These changes came into effect on July 27, 2024, under the new law on the circulation of excise goods, which applies throughout the country, except in areas where hostilities are taking place or under temporary occupation. However, the sale of alcohol is still prohibited during the curfew. About this informs publication “OBOZ.UA” with reference to representatives of the legal aid center of the KMDA.
Lawyers have confirmed that from July 27 restrictions on the sale of alcohol between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. no longer apply in Kyiv. According to the new law, these rules apply to the entire territory of Ukraine, with the exception of those regions where active hostilities are ongoing or which are temporarily controlled by the occupying forces.
The journalists noted that until the approval of the relevant order by the Cabinet of Ministers, the authority to limit the sale of alcohol at certain hours remains exclusively with the regional state or military administrations. This applies exclusively to areas where hostilities are taking place or which are under occupation, as well as territories included in the official list, which is regularly updated.
It is worth noting that not all trade networks can keep abreast of changes in legislation. According to journalists, in August 2024, some shops and supermarkets in Kyiv and Odesa continued not to sell alcohol after 9:00 p.m., following the old restrictions imposed by local authorities.
