“Driving from the Epicenter, I noticed the driver of a Toyota Camry parked in a handicapped spot for no good reason. I approached to ask if he needed a sticker. Then his wife got out of the passenger seat in a police uniform with a headquarters chevron to the police and started shouting: “And only disabled people go to the Epicenter?”, – says Pavlo Yakimchuk.
After a brief argument, the veteran was forced to use obscenities in response, despite the fact that the woman is a police officer.
Yakimchuk also noted that he knows many good policemen, but emphasizes that such behavior is unacceptable, especially when law enforcement officers allow themselves such statements while performing their duties.
The Ukrainian serviceman also shared the comment of a witness who heard how the policewoman continued to insult him, saying: “They think that since they came from the front, they are allowed to do everything.”
The next day Pavlo Yakimchuk reported new details of the incident. In particular, it became known that the policewoman who insulted him could be Olena Oreshchenko, born in 1985. She allegedly called him “completely disabled” after he asked her husband about the need for a “handicapped” parking sticker.
“This woman, knowing about my injury and the disability group, said: “They think that if they came from the front, they are allowed to do everything””, continues Yakimchuk.
Despite the scandal, the car remained in the same place, and the family continued to stay in the parking lot for more than an hour. Pavlo Yakimchuk also left a link to the policewoman’s Instagram page, which has probably been deleted.
In the next one publications Yakimchuk noted that Olena Oreshchenko contacted him, initially trying to explain her version of events and expressing her willingness to apologize, but later changed her tone, accusing him of insulting law enforcement officers and communicating in Russian, which he categorically denies.
The police reacted to the scandal with the war veteran
In response to the first publication by Pavel Yakimchuk, the page of the police of the Kyiv region appeared message that an official investigation into the legality of the police officer’s actions was initiated in relation to the incident.
“After finding out all the circumstances of the event, a decision will be made in accordance with the current legislation”, – stated in the message.
