Ukraine is on the brink of a demographic catastrophe, hundreds of thousands of people are renouncing their citizenship: People’s Deputy

Ukraine is witnessing a demographic catastrophe, and hundreds of thousands of citizens living abroad seek to renounce Ukrainian citizenship. People’s deputy from “European Solidarity” Mykola Knyazhytskyi v ether talk show “Great Lviv Speaks”.

“In the beginning, we made a lot of mistakes when we did not provide consular services to these people. Now, on the contrary, we are allegedly trying to provide them. There is a reason for this. Because there are hundreds of thousands of applications for renunciation of Ukrainian citizenship.”, he said.

Knyazhytskyi emphasized that it is necessary to create a Ministry of Demography in Ukraine, as the problem is large-scale. According to the National Bank, 400,000 people left Ukraine in the last six months alone, and 6.7 million in the last few years. Someone has to take responsibility for solving this problem, he added.

The People’s Deputy also emphasized that no one deals with the issues of internally displaced persons in Ukraine.

“I am not talking about the fact that half of our schools are not closed because there are no shelters there or because they are wooden. Local budgets cannot build shelters, because the personal income tax was taken from them. And they were taken, unfortunately not for the army”, – said the people’s deputy.

Knyazhytskyi emphasized the need to create conditions that will facilitate the return of Ukrainians, noting that this requires active actions on the part of the authorities.

It will be recalled that the former adviser of the Office of the President, Oleksiy Arestovych, previously expressed the opinion that the current population of Ukraine is no longer capable of ensuring the proper functioning of the country within its 1991 borders. According to him, there are about 9 million able-bodied citizens left in Ukraine, while 14 million people are not involved in work. Arestovych believes that such a population can live only in a few regions of the state.
