A private island worth £5.5 million has been put up for sale in Scotland for the first time in 80 years

For the first time in almost 80 years, the private island of Shuna, located off the west coast of Scotland, has been put up for sale in its entirety for £5.5m. About this informs Bloomberg.

The area of the island exceeds 1,000 acres (approximately 400 hectares). There are eight residential buildings, the ruins of a castle and several flocks of sheep. There are no roads on the island, and mobile communications are weak. The island is being offered for sale for £5.5 million ($7.44 million) through Knight Frank. Seven of the eight buildings are used as holiday cottages from April to October and can host up to 52 guests.

Another house was intended for service personnel. Each home has its own boat, allowing you to explore the surrounding waters. Despite its remoteness and lack of connection to a centralized power grid, the island is powered by solar panels, wind turbines and backup generators. Shuna can be reached by boat in 10 minutes from Crowbe Marina or Arduane on the mainland. There is also the possibility of landing a helicopter, although there is no official site.

The island has been owned by Jim Gulley’s family since the late 1940s. His grandmother, Viscountess Selby, purchased Shuna after the Second World War in search of a fresh start for the family. Jim grew up on the island, recalling it as a perfect childhood filled with adventure, farming and entertaining at summer cottages.

His father, Edward, spent most of his life on the Shun developing a hunting and leasing business. Now he lives on a neighboring island and is looking for new owners who would be able to give the island a new life.

Halli believes that the buyer can be an investor who will create an elite eco-tourism resort on Shuna. Also, the island can become a private family haven, far from the city bustle and stresses of modern life.
