A strong earthquake struck Turkey: one dead and 69 injured (video)

On the night of June 3, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred in the Turkish province of Mugla, located in the southwest of the country. The tremors were recorded at 2:17 a.m. local time in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast, about 10 kilometers from the Marmaris district. The earthquake was felt not only in the region, but also in the cities of Izmir and Antalya, on the Greek island of Rhodes and in other nearby areas.

“After a panic attack, 14-year-old Afranur Günli was taken to a hospital in Fethiye. Despite the efforts of doctors, it was not possible to save her”, – noted the governor of Mugla province, Idris Akbiyik

According to official information, 46 victims are still in medical facilities, 8 more people have been discharged. One patient remains hospitalized, and 14 victims were treated at the scene.

Minister of the Environment Murat Kurum reported that no destruction of residential buildings has been recorded so far. The infrastructure was also not affected – water supply, electricity supply and gas supply are carried out as usual. Additional rescue units have been dispatched to the region. Field inspections are ongoing, and local authorities are calling on the population to remain calm.
