South Korea and the US conducted military exercises in the East Sea
The navies of South Korea and the United States have completed a four-day joint exercise in the East Sea, which was aimed at improving the ability of both countries to counter simultaneous enemy attacks. About this informs Yonhap.
The exercise lasted from Thursday to Sunday and involved the participation of about ten South Korean ships, including a 7,600-ton destroyer, as well as about ten aircraft. From the US, according to the South Korean Navy, a missile destroyer and a maritime patrol aircraft were involved.
Sailors worked out scenarios for prompt and effective response to various threats – sea, underwater and air attacks.
As part of the exercises, operations were practiced to repel a possible penetration of North Korean special forces across the Northern Line of Demarcation, which is the de facto maritime border between North and South Korea. Underwater exercises focused on detecting, tracking and destroying an enemy submarine also took place.
Particular attention was paid to intercepting enemy drones, responding to local provocations and preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction by sea, the South Korean Navy said.
