Kyiv police together with the Security Service of Ukraine detained a man who, acting on the instructions of foreign special services, tried to organize an explosion to damage a police outfit. In the Pechersk district of the capital, the perpetrator rented an apartment, installed a “stringer” with a grenade there and called the law enforcement officers. About this reported in the press services of the National Police and SBU. The detainee faces up to 12 years in prison for the crime.
According to law enforcement officers, they received a call about domestic violence: a woman stated that her boyfriend had beaten her. In a telephone conversation, she said that she was afraid for her life, locked herself in the bathroom, leaving the apartment door open.
“On the instructions of the curator, he rented an apartment in advance, placed video surveillance cameras there to confirm his actions, planted explosives. And the call to 102 in a female voice was a fake to lure the police into a trap. After the crime, the offender hid behind the place of residence, where he was arrested.”, the security forces reported.
The detainee turned out to be a 43-year-old resident of the Kyiv region, who previously had problems with the law. The investigation established that he was recruited by foreign special services through a messenger. However, he never received the promised reward for completing the task.
Criminal proceedings have been opened for the organization of the terrorist attack. The man was charged with suspicion, and the court chose a preventive measure — detention without bail.
