A Ukrainian stabbed 5 people in the center of Amsterdam

Amsterdam police have identified the man arrested after a knife attack on five people in the city center on March 27. According to law enforcement officers, the suspect is a 30-year-old citizen of Ukraine from the Donetsk region. It is currently unknown whether he comes from the territory controlled by Ukraine or from the temporarily occupied part of the region. informs US.

The process of establishing the identity was complicated by the fact that several documents in different names were found with the detainee. The man checked into a hotel in Amsterdam a day before the attack — on Wednesday. The police do not disclose what other documents he had with him.

Due to a leg injury, the suspect is in a hospital at the penitentiary. His pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1. The police have yet to comment on possible motives for the attacker’s actions.

The incident happened near Dam Square. A man with a knife attacked passers-by and injured five. He was stopped by a British tourist who was able to knock the attacker to the ground and hold him until the police arrived.

Among the injured are two elderly US citizens, a 26-year-old Polish citizen, a 73-year-old woman from Belgium and a 19-year-old Dutch woman. The mayor of Amsterdam presented the British tourist with an award for bravery, adding that he refused to reveal his name publicly.
