Tesla recalls more than 46 thousand Cybertruck vehicles
Tesla is recalling 46,096 Cybertruck pickups in the U.S. due to a defect in an exterior panel that can detach while driving. About this informs Electrek.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the cause is peeling of the edge rail, a stainless steel element. Tesla said that service centers will replace the defective part free of charge.
“A detached panel can pose a road hazard, increasing the risk of an accident”, explained NHTSA.
Tesla previously said the Cybertruck has a “bulletproof exoskeleton” and is “armored.” However, in practice, the design turned out to be closer to the classic body design. This means that most of the body parts are decorative rather than chassis parts and may be less durable than claimed.
This is not the first case of problems with the Cybertruck trim. Earlier, Tesla recalled 11,000 of these cars due to peeling off of some body elements while driving. Then the reason was the unreliable fixation of the parts on the glue.
In April 2024, the company also recalled 3,878 Cybertruck vehicles due to a defect in the accelerator pedal pad. It could shift and get stuck in the interior lining, which created a risk of involuntary acceleration of the car.
