Almost 70 people were injured as a result of a large-scale accident with trams in Strasbourg

In the French city of Strasbourg, a rare accident involving two trams occurred, as a result of which 68 people were injured. The incident happened near the railway station, where two passenger trams collided head-on. informs AFP.
One of the trams was standing at an underground stop near the station, when another tram, which had previously moved uphill, unexpectedly rolled back and crashed into it. Dozens of passengers were in both trams. According to eyewitnesses, the brakes of the tram that caused the collision probably failed.
Fortunately, both drivers were not injured. Tram traffic in the area was suspended for several days to investigate and eliminate the consequences of the accident. The prosecutor’s office has started an investigation into the fact of unintentional bodily harm. Investigators ruled out the version of intentional actions, considering the incident as a tragic accident.
The Strasbourg administration notes that the last such incident in the city happened almost 30 years ago, in 1998. Then two trams collided in the same tunnel, as a result of which 17 people were injured.
