19 people killed by floods in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and the EU offer aid

The number of victims of devastating floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are called one of the worst in recent decades, has increased to 19 people. About this reported the Balkan service of Radio Liberty.

The floods began on the night of October 4, when heavy rains flooded several cities in the central and southern parts of the country. The municipality of Yablunice was the most affected, where rescuers found the bodies of 16 dead. Three more victims of the natural disaster, which destroyed numerous houses and farm buildings, were found in the city of Fojnice.

Against the background of this disaster, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković expressed their readiness to provide all necessary assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Vucic said that Serbia is ready to send rescue helicopters, boats and financial support to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. Plenkovic confirmed that the Croatian government is in constant contact with the head of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krishto, and is ready to help with all the necessary resources.

In addition, the high representative of the EU for foreign policy, Josep Borrell, said that the European Union is also ready to provide support. He emphasized that Bosnia can take advantage of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which it joined in 2022.

We will remind that in September, similar floods caused large-scale destruction in Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and in the north of Romania.
