An experiment on creating municipal rental housing has been launched in Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers has started the implementation of an experimental project to create a municipal rental housing fund. About this reported Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal at a government meeting.

According to him, communities will take care of the construction, using standard design solutions, which will make it possible to significantly speed up and reduce the cost of implementation. Veterans, family members of fallen defenders, military personnel, internally displaced persons, orphans, teachers, doctors and public utility workers will have the right to housing.

“We clearly define the criteria that the recipients must meet, as well as the criteria of the housing itself. The norm will be the square footage of 40 m2 for a family of two, as well as the habitability of the apartment, including furniture and household appliances.” Shmyhal noted.

He also explained that the rental price will be calculated according to a special formula, taking into account the specifics of a particular region. The amount will be significantly lower than the market, so it will be available for families with limited financial opportunities. According to preliminary estimates, the monthly payment for a one-room apartment will be approximately 6 thousand hryvnias. Financing of the initiative will be carried out from local budgets, as well as at the expense of loans and grants from international partners.

“Also, thanks to the support of the World Bank, within the framework of the HOPE project, we are intensifying the restoration of housing for Ukrainians. We are directing UAH 540 million to the communities of Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Izyum, Buchi, and Makarov. They will invest these funds in the repair of about 200 apartment buildings that were damaged by Russian terrorists.” Shmyhal added.
