At URC 2025, an International Coalition to Support Ukrainian Science was created

During the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine 2025 (URC 2025) held in Rome, the creation of the International Coalition for the Support of Science, Research and Innovation in Ukraine was officially announced. About this informs Ministry of Education and Science.

As part of the event, the Rome Declaration of Intentions for Science, Research and Innovation in Ukraine was presented and signed, which became a formal confirmation of the creation of the coalition.

“We are forming science capable of withstanding the challenges of war and at the same time being the driving force of the future. We are renewing approaches to funding, supporting young researchers, building innovative infrastructure. For us, this is not a temporary initiative, but a strategic course: to make Ukrainian science a systematic, open and integral part of the European research space. The signing of the Rome Declaration is a powerful sign of the international community’s trust in this path and in our determination change”, — emphasized the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi.

The created coalition aims to respond to both current challenges and long-term tasks of the scientific and innovative system of Ukraine. Special attention is paid to the modernization of research infrastructure, support of Ukrainian scientists and recognition of the key role of science in the process of rebuilding the country.

The initiative was the result of the joint work of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Universities and Research of Italy, the European Commission and UNESCO. It was also joined by Austria, Great Britain, Denmark, Spain, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Sweden, Croatia and UNDP. The project demonstrates the importance of science, research and innovation as the basis for sustainable and long-term recovery of Ukraine.

The creation of the coalition was announced by the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Yevhen Kudryavets, the Minister of Universities and Research of Italy Anna Maria Bernini, the European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Kateryna Zakhareva and the Deputy Director General of UNESCO Lidia Artur Britto.

“The formation of the International Coalition for the Support of Science, Research and Innovation is the recognition of science as a critical force for the reconstruction of Ukraine. The coalition creates an effective mechanism for regular, structured coordination of partners’ efforts and creates a favorable environment for larger-scale international support of Ukrainian science – support that will be effective and long-term. We are grateful to the partners for their solidarity and shared vision of the future of Ukraine – innovative, as part of the EU.”Yevhen Kudryavets noted.
