“The first so-called screening – an informal conversation with prisoners of war who are now returning, shows that up to 90% of our people suffer from various types of torture, inhuman treatment, physical, sexual and mental abuse,” – said Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.
During a meeting with journalists specializing in armed conflicts and international law, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine noted that the Russian system of holding prisoners is based on inhumane treatment, torture, violation of all possible rules and international agreements.

Four Russian servicemen have already been charged in these cases. The investigation of the proceedings continues. Two cases have already been referred to the court. A total of 2,200 Ukrainian soldiers reported human rights violations while in captivity.
“More than 500 of our soldiers testified about the use of physical violence against them during enemy interrogations, in particular, they were tortured with electric current. We can also say with confidence that the aggressor created a whole system of inhumane treatment of Ukrainian prisoners. At least 25 special “objects in 15 regions of the Russian Federation, where our military is systematically mocked”, – noted Andriy Kostin.
