China Introduces Mandatory Labeling of AI-Generated Content

China has joined the European Union and the United States in fighting disinformation by introducing new rules mandating the labeling of content created with artificial intelligence. About this informs Bloomberg.
According to an announcement by the Cyberspace Administration of China, service providers must clearly mark such content either by explicit labeling or by adding relevant metadata to files. The new rules will come into effect on September 1.
The purpose of these measures is to reduce the risks associated with the spread of disinformation, especially generated by generative artificial intelligence that generates texts, images or audio. App store operators must also verify whether applications use AI to create content and monitor whether they comply with labeling rules.
The Chinese government emphasizes that these innovations will help users better recognize disinformation and ensure that providers are held accountable for shared content. At the same time, platforms that comply with the established requirements and promptly respond to user requests will be able to continue to provide content without marking.
