A tragic car accident occurred in Ethiopia, which claimed the lives of 71 people
A tragic traffic accident took place in the area of the town of Bona, located in the south of Ethiopia, which claimed the lives of 71 people. About this informs Reuters.
According to official information, six victims were taken to the hospital. Four of them have already been discharged, while two people with serious injuries are still under medical supervision. The truck involved in the accident left the road and fell into the reservoir. The victims of the tragedy were 68 men and three women.
The car was traveling along the route from Bona to Bensu. According to local authorities, the driver lost control of the road on a difficult stretch of road known for numerous sharp turns. After that, the vehicle left the bridge and fell into the water.
This event became especially painful due to the fact that some of the passengers were returning from a wedding ceremony. Preliminary data from the traffic police indicated that the vehicle was overloaded, which was probably a key factor in the accident.
As Reuters points out, road safety problems in Ethiopia remain serious. Low level of driver training, overloading of vehicles and poor technical condition of cars often lead to fatal accidents. Such tragedies are a common phenomenon here due to weak control over the implementation of traffic standards and transport operation.
