UK Prime Minister: Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports threaten global food security
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned of a serious threat to global food security due to increased Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea. In his speech, mentioned in the official press release of the government, he noted that Russia, with its strikes on the critical infrastructure of Ukraine, is trying to increase the pressure on Kyiv and endanger millions of people in the countries of Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
“Russia’s strikes on Black Sea ports underscore that Putin is willing to risk global food security in an attempt to force Ukraine into submission. By his actions, he is harming millions of people across Africa, Asia and the Middle East as he tries to win his barbaric warStarmer said.
He also added that Russia, which has turned to North Korea for military support, is showing desperation and willingness to go to extreme measures to support its war machine.
“And now (the Russian Federation) is intensifying attacks on areas of Ukraine that support the Global South with much-needed food“, – added the British Prime Minister.
Starmer emphasized that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a clear violation of the principles of the UN Charter, and the Kremlin’s methods of waging war show complete disregard for human life and the international consequences of this conflict.
According to British intelligence, between October 5 and 14, at least four merchant ships in the Black Sea were damaged by Russian attacks. Also, Russian troops attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa, which resulted in the death of one Ukrainian citizen and injuries to five foreigners.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga added that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian attacks have damaged 23 civilian vessels.
