Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatiy submitted his resignation

Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapaty submitted report on release after the tragedy at the 239 training ground, where servicemen of the training battalion were killed as a result of a Russian strike.

“I have decided to submit a report on the resignation from the post of commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is a conscious step dictated by my personal sense of responsibility for the tragedy at the 239th training ground, as a result of which our soldiers died.

As a commander, I was unable to fully enforce my orders. He did not pressure, did not convince, did not change his attitude towards the person in the formation. This is my responsibility. The behavior of soldiers is important, but the main responsibility always rests with the command. It is the commanders who determine the rules, make decisions and are responsible for the consequences.”, — said Drapatoy’s statement.

It will be recalled that on June 1, Russian troops launched a missile attack on a training unit of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to preliminary data, at least 12 servicemen were killed and more than 60 were injured. Mykhailo Drapaty stated that an examination of all the circumstances of the tragedy, including the actions of the commanders, the condition of the shelters, and the effectiveness of the warning systems, had begun. The victims are provided with the necessary assistance.

“We will not win this war if we do not build an army where honor is not a word, but an action. Where responsibility is not punishment, but the basis of trust. Where every commander is responsible every day – for an order, for a decision, for a person.” – he noted.
