The Ministry of Economy reported how much money is needed for demining in Ukraine
Ukraine needs $29.8 billion for demining territories. This is stated in the report “Rapid Assessment of Damage and Recovery Needs” (RDNA4), informs Ministry of Economy.
Compared to the previous report, the estimate of required funds for demining was reduced by $4.8 billion due to progress in the survey and clearance of previously active areas.
“The reduction in the amount of needs for humanitarian demining by almost 5 billion dollars is evidence of the enormous work implemented by the Ministry of Economy together with the Ministry of Defense, the State Emergency Service, private and international mine action operators and other stakeholders.
And we have room to grow – the authors of the report note that the active development of such innovations as the use of sensor technologies, aerial photography and machine learning can further accelerate and, accordingly, reduce the cost of demining.”, – noted the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyridenko.
The authors of the report emphasize that demining areas will take decades, so it is critical to strengthen institutional capacity in the long term and develop partnerships with international organizations that specialize in mine action. The document recommends more active implementation of innovative technologies and ensuring stable long-term investments in the field of humanitarian demining.
