‘Corruption is gradually ceasing to be the norm in Ukraine”: Oleksandr Klymenko

The head of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, Oleksandr Klymenko, has said that corruption is gradually ceasing to be the norm in Ukraine. He made this statement during a speech at an event dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Law on the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.
According to a post by the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) on their official Facebook page, Klymenko was one of the key people at the event. In his speech, he emphasised that thanks to joint efforts, corruption in Ukraine is no longer the norm, stressing the importance of the work of anti-corruption bodies in achieving this goal.
He also expressed his hope that this positive trend will continue in the future and congratulated his colleagues on reaching an important milestone in the fight against corruption. Klymenko wished everyone further fruitful and coordinated work in the interests of the people of Ukraine.
Among those present at the event were Vira Mykhailenko, Head of the High Anti-Corruption Court, and Viktor Pavlushchyk, Head of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption. The event was attended by international partners, including U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zea, Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova, and Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine John Hinkel.
According to the SAPO, international partners emphasised the importance of independent anti-corruption institutions for Ukraine’s democratic and Euro-Atlantic future. They also stressed that the effective work of such institutions is key to the international community’s support in the fight against corruption, which significantly strengthens Ukraine’s position on the path to integration into the European community.
