Hurricane Milton is approaching Florida, and its potential to become one of the most destructive storms on record has forecasters and local authorities worried. informs CNN. Although it is forecast to weaken to a Category 3 before landfall, the hurricane is expected to grow significantly in size, leading to the spread of destructive effects over a wider area.

The storm could make landfall on Florida’s central coast as early as Wednesday night, and its eye and eyewall could produce a record storm surge that would be the strongest in 100 years. Authorities are urging residents of coastal areas to evacuate immediately, warning of a deadly threat.

There is heavy traffic on the highway, and many gas stations are already running out of fuel. According to Reuters, more than a million people have been ordered to evacuate from danger zones.

“Milton” moves on a rare route from west to east across the Gulf of Mexico, and its maximum wind speed reaches 260 km/h. The storm became the third-fastest intensification in Atlantic history, climbing from Category 1 to Category 5 in less than a day.
