Donald Trump plans to abolish the acquisition of citizenship by birthright

US President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to abolish birthright citizenship enshrined in the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution. About this informs NBC News channel.

Trump criticized the current system, calling it “ridiculous”, and emphasized that the practice of granting citizenship by birth exists only in the United States.

“We have to put an end to this,” – he emphasized.

The newly elected president clarified that he intended to implement this initiative during his first term, but the implementation of the plan was prevented by the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, he has expressed a desire to make changes through executive powers, although he has not ruled out the need to enlist public support.

Among Trump’s other priorities are the deportation of illegal migrants and the resolution of the issue of the status of “Dreamers”. This is the name given to immigrants who came to the United States as children. The president expressed his readiness to work with the Democrats to find a compromise.

“We have to do something about the “dreamers”. They have become successful, have jobs and even their own businesses. We have to do something about them.”, he added.
