DPRK authorities declare South Korea an ‘enemy state’

The National Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) adopted amendments to the Constitution, officially recognizing South Korea as an “enemy state”. About this informs Reuters.

For data KCNA news agency, on October 15, North Korea’s military blew up sections of highways and railways connecting North and South Korea, calling it a “lawful act” in response to the designation of South Korea as an enemy state.

“This is an inevitable and legitimate measure based on a serious security environment that is heading towards the unpredictable border of war due to the requirements of the Republic of Korea Constitution, which regulates the Republic of Korea as an absolutely hostile country, as well as the harsh political and military provocations of hostile forces.”, – it is noted in the statement.

Sections of the road and railway on the northern side of the border were completely closed, which was part of a “plan to gradually separate the territory of North Korea from South Korea.” A representative of North Korea’s defense ministry also said that the country will continue to strengthen the border in the future, although no other constitutional changes were mentioned.

The Ministry of Unification of South Korea sharply condemned the new introduction to the Constitution of the DPRK and emphasized its steadfast position on the peaceful reunification of the peninsula.

It will be recalled that in January 2024, the leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong Un, called for amendments to the Constitution, identifying South Korea as the “main enemy” and warned that the country will not avoid war if it becomes necessary.
