‘Energoatom ordered protection of NPPs from Shahedis only after Zelensky’s speech at the UN: ‘Nashi Hroshi

“Energoatom” ordered protection against Shahed attack drones for the Rivne nuclear power plant, but this happened only after the speech of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi at the UN General Assembly. About this informs “Our Money” project, referring to information from Prozorro.
According to the data, on September 25, 2024, Energoatom concluded a contract worth UAH 509 million for the design and construction of protective structures at the Rivne NPP. These reinforced concrete U-shaped structures are designed to protect large transformers from drone impacts and debris in the event of an indirect missile hit. The effectiveness of such structures has already been proven at Ukrenergo substations.
However, journalists draw attention to the fact that the contract for protective structures for the Rivne NPP is completely closed, and there is no available information about the dimensions or other details of the construction.
It will be recalled that earlier the flight of an attack drone was recorded at a critically low altitude near the industrial site of the Rivne NPP during one of the Russian air attacks.
After the massive strikes on the Ukrainian energy system on August 26, the director of the Energy Research Center, Oleksandr Kharchenko, said that distribution stations of Ukrainian nuclear power plants remain vulnerable to missile and drone attacks. He noted that during that shelling, four units at the Rivne and South Ukrainian NPPs were shut down due to attacks on Ukrenergo substations that transport electricity from the NPP to consumers.
Kharchenko warned of the possibility of a national blackout in case of destruction of open distribution devices at nuclear plants and expressed concern that Energoatom is not protecting these facilities properly.
In response, Energoatom accused Kharchenko of manipulation and spreading false information, stressing that the company is constantly working to strengthen the security of its facilities and energy infrastructure in accordance with current legislation.
