EU condemns Iranian attack on Israel and calls for immediate ceasefire

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, strongly condemned Iran’s missile attack on Israel and called for an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East. That’s what he’s about reported in his post on the X social network (Twitter).
Borrell stressed that the EU categorically condemns Iranian aggression against Israel, emphasizing the risk of an uncontrolled escalation of the conflict through a cycle of attacks and corresponding strikes.
“An immediate ceasefire is necessary in the entire region”, he noted.
The European Union, Borrell said, remains committed to its efforts to prevent a large-scale regional war.
Iran launched a massive missile attack on the territory of Israel on October 1. The Israeli military said about 180 rockets were fired, most of which were intercepted. As a result of shelling in the occupied West Bank of the Jordan River, one Palestinian was killed, a school in the center of Israel and a restaurant in Tel Aviv were also damaged.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the attack a “big mistake” and promised that Iran would be held accountable for its actions.
The United States has confirmed that its military systems have intercepted some of the missiles fired by Iran at Israel, and said it is ready to maintain close contact with Israel in this situation.
Iran explained its actions as an act of self-defense in response to “aggressive actions” by Israel, including the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
It also became known that US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris held a meeting with the national security team due to the escalation of the situation amid the Iranian attack.
