European countries are considering the possibility of leading a foreign military contingent in Ukraine

Britain and France are considering the possibility of leading a foreign military contingent in Ukraine amid potential changes in the geopolitical situation associated with the risk of Donald Trump winning the US presidential election. About this informs The World.

The French publication notes that discussions regarding sending Western military or private defense companies to Ukraine have intensified again. The details of the discussions remain classified, but their interest increased precisely after Trump’s election victory.

The initiative was first proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron in February this year. Then she met strong opposition from a number of European countries, among which Germany played a leading role. Despite this, the idea was not completely rejected.

“According to our information, it has even been revived in recent weeks with the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to France during the November 11 celebrations.”, – adds the publication

Currently, negotiations are continuing between London and Paris on the possibility of expanding defense cooperation. Their goal is to create a “solid core” of allies in Europe, with an emphasis on supporting Ukraine and strengthening European security.

Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro called on Western partners to avoid establishing “red lines” in matters of support for Ukraine. Answering a question about the possibility of sending French troops to Ukraine, he noted: “We do not exclude any option”.
