How much money came to Ukraine from Polish immigrants

The reason for the recorded fall was a decrease in the earnings of seasonal and border workers.

In the first quarter of 2024, immigrants working in Poland sent remittances worth PLN 5.9 billion. This is PLN 1.7 billion less than in the same period last year, according to data from the National Bank of Poland. informs bankier.pl.

57.7% of all transfers were sent to Ukraine. The bank notes that the decrease in the volume of transfers is related to the decrease in the earnings of seasonal and border workers due to the decrease in the number of Ukrainians working in Poland on a short-term basis.

Remittances from short-term immigrants in the first quarter of 2024 amounted to PLN 3.5 billion, compared to PLN 6.0 billion in the first quarter of 2023.

The geographical structure was dominated by remittances to Ukraine, which amounted to 3.4 billion zlotys. Funds transferred to other countries neighboring Poland, in particular to Belarus, also increased.

Private remittances to Ukraine in January-May 2024 amounted to $4.37 billion, which is $376 million or 8.59% less than in the same period of 2023.

At the same time, other private transfers remain relatively stable — in May they amounted to $0.33 billion.

According to the NBU’s calculations, $469 million worth of remittances came to Ukraine through official channels in May, and $406 million through informal channels.

Private remittances to Ukraine in January-March 2024 amounted to $2.63 billion, which is $250 million or 9% less than in the same period of 2023.
