Export volumes of Ukrainian goods by rail doubled

The blockade of Black Sea ports after the outbreak of full-scale war led to catastrophic consequences for the export industry. However, thanks to cooperation with European partners and investments in railway transport, it was possible to partially redirect export flows.
During May, the volume of foreign sales of Ukrainian goods doubled compared to the same month last year. Exports also increased compared to April. In total, 7.55 million tons of export goods were transported by rail last month. This is by 0.52 million tons, or by 7.4%, more than the indicators of April.
The first position, as before, belongs to agricultural exports. In May, 3.28 million tons of grain were shipped abroad by rail. This is 43.4% of the total volume of export shipments. 2.7 million tons of iron and manganese ore were transported (35.8% of the total volume). The third position is ferrous metals. During the month, 0.41 million tons of this group of goods were exported.
As a reminder, the 2023-2024 marketing year will end on June 30. For 11 months (from July 2023 to the end of May 2024), Ukraine exported 46.96 million tons of grain and leguminous crops. This is 3% more than what was sold during the same period of the previous marketing year. The growth of the total volume of exports of agricultural products was mainly due to the increase in sales of wheat. Corn exports, on the contrary, decreased somewhat.
