Fico came to Moscow to meet with Putin

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, arrived in Moscow for a meeting with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. About this informs Reuters.

It is noted that the negotiations take place in a face-to-face format. This is Fico’s first personal meeting with Putin in more than eight years. According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmytro Peskov, the visit of the Slovak prime minister was agreed only a few days ago. During the meeting, the issue of supplying Russian gas will probably be discussed. However, the final details will be known after the negotiations are concluded.

Fico visited Moscow amid Ukraine’s decision to stop the transit of Russian gas from January 1, 2025, which he said could cause an energy crisis in Slovakia. The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated this earlier, noting that Fico’s visit to Moscow was related to this issue.

The visit was Robert Fizo’s first trip to Russia since his return as Prime Minister in 2023. He also became the third European leader to visit Moscow since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, following Austrian Chancellor Karl Neghammer and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

We will remind that Slovakia has repeatedly made efforts to achieve the extension of the agreement between Ukraine and Russia regarding the transit of Russian gas. Its term of validity expires in 2024.
