Greenland announces early elections after Trump’s announcements about island acquisition

Greenland has decided to hold a general election a month ahead of schedule due to Donald Trump’s renewed interest in the Arctic region. About this informs The Guardian.

Prime Minister of Greenland Mute Egede noted that the country is going through “serious times”, and the main topics of the election campaign will be the desire for independence, economic development and future relations with Denmark and the USA.

“We are in the middle of serious times. Times that we have never experienced in our country. This is not a time for internal division. This is a time that requires us to work together and unite for our country.”, – stressed the Greenlandic Prime Minister.

He also said that he wants to stay in office to “work for the people and run the country.” Early elections were unanimously approved by the Greenlandic parliament. They will take place on March 11, almost a month earlier than the statutory deadline – April 6.
