Russia and Ukraine are not ready for negotiations at the moment: John Kirby

The administration of US President Joe Biden believes that neither Ukraine nor Russia is currently ready for negotiations to end the war started by the Russian Federation. About this stated White House adviser John Kirby during a briefing.

The White House rejected suggestions that the new sanctions against Russia could be used as a pressure tool to negotiate a war.

“This was not done with the expectation that it will become a bargaining chip that can be taken off the table when Ukraine wants to sit down at this negotiating table. Now there is no expectation that any of the parties is ready for negotiations.” Kirby said.

He also explained that the decision to introduce additional sanctions was based on forecasts for the domestic and foreign energy markets. At the same time, Kirby confirmed that earlier large-scale restrictions in the energy sector were postponed in order to avoid jumps in energy prices in the United States.
