ICC prosecutor who was involved in Putin’s arrest over deportation of Ukrainian children is under Trump sanctions

Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan, who supervised the arrest warrant of Vladimir Putin in connection with the deportation of Ukrainian children, was included in the non-public list of US sanctions. This is reported by Reuters.
According to Reuters sources, Khan became the first person to be subject to sanctions imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump. They are directed against the tribunal for investigating US citizens or allies. It said Khan’s name was included in the executive order Trump signed on February 6. The sanctions include a ban on entry to the United States for Karim Khan and members of his family, as well as freezing of any assets in American banks.
Russia placed Khan on a wanted list in 2023 after the ICC issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and Russian official Maria Lvova-Belova for the forced transfer of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia.
Reuters notes that Khan regularly visited the United States for briefings at the UN Security Council under an agreement between the United Nations and Washington.
It will be recalled that Ukrainian officials estimate the number of illegally deported children in the range of 150,000 to 300,000. Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, calls the minimum estimate, and Children’s Ombudsman Daria Gerasimchuk suggests that this figure may be even higher.
