US Secretary of State Mark Rubio had a telephone conversation with Lavrov for the first time

US Secretary of State Mark Rubio had a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for the first time in the years of full-scale war. As reported at the US State Department, this conversation was a continuation of contacts between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

The press service of the State Department noted that during the conversation, Rubio confirmed President Trump’s determination to find a diplomatic way to end the war in Ukraine. In addition, the parties discussed the possibilities of further cooperation in bilateral issues.

We will remind that on February 12, a conversation took place between Trump and Putin, after which the Kremlin announced the beginning of the formation of a negotiating group to organize the future meeting of the two leaders.

It also became known that Trump assigned Secretary of State Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to lead the negotiation process with Russia.

In addition, on February 16, Mark Rubio will make his first official trip to the Middle East as the top US diplomat. He is expected to call on countries in the region to come forward with proposals if they are concerned about the possibility of the United States taking over Gaza and forcibly evicting its residents. About this informs Bloomberg.
