In the first quarter of 2025, Ukraine’s industrial sector continued to decline: production decreased by more than 6%

In the first four months of 2025, Ukraine recorded a 6.1% decrease in industrial production compared to the same period last year. About this informs AgroReview, citing official statistics. This indicator indicates a general slowdown in activity in the country’s manufacturing sector, despite individual positive signals in some industries.
Within the processing and mining industry, the dynamics turned out to be mostly negative. The sharpest decline was recorded in the field of mining and quarrying — the decrease was 15% in annual terms. At the same time, the manufacturing industry lost 2.1% compared to January-April 2024.
Positive dynamics were recorded in the metallurgical sector: the production of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy products and finished metal products increased by 9.5%. However, at the same time, the production of metal ores showed a decline of 4%.
The energy supply sector also showed negative dynamics. In the field of production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning, the general industrial production index decreased by 6.3%. Volumes of electricity production fell by 7.8%, and its distribution – by 6.8%.
Compared to March 2025, April showed a revival, with the general index of industrial production increasing by 9.2%. However, in annual terms, i.e. relative to April 2024, production remained 6.4% lower.
In April of this year, the metallurgical complex recorded an increase in production volumes by 10.1% compared to March. If compared with April 2024, the growth was 4.6%. Metal ore production also showed a slight increase of 2.9% for the month, but remained lower than last year’s 2.2%.
Thus, despite some signs of recovery in the spring months, the general picture in the industry remains alarming. The economy continues to feel the pressure of martial law, logistical difficulties and unstable demand.
