In Ukraine, electric vehicle sales are increasing by 22.7% compared to last year.

In Ukraine, sales of electric vehicles increased by 22.7% compared to the same period last year. About this informs Institute of Car Market Research.
In April 2025, the Ukrainian electric car market continued to show growth. The total volume of registered cars in this segment reached 8,200 units — this is 4.8% more than in March and 22.7% more than in April last year. During the month, 904 new electric passenger cars were registered, and since the beginning of the year – already 2,970 units.
As of April 2025, the market structure looks like this: 57.3% (4,704 cars) are imported used electric cars, 31.6% (2,595 cars) are domestic resales, and only 11% (904 units) are new electric cars.
The following changes were recorded in the market dynamics: the import of used cars decreased slightly compared to March by 0.9%, but grew by 40.6% year-on-year. Domestic resales added 10.1% for the month, but were down 1.8% from a year ago. Imports of new electric vehicles increased by 24.3% by March and by 30.1% by April 2024.
The level of sales in the domestic market is around 2.5 thousand cars per month. Imports of used cars continue to grow gradually, while the segment of new cars shows stable, albeit moderate, dynamics, not yet reaching the mark of 1,000 cars per month.
Since the beginning of the year, 2,970 new electric cars have been registered in Ukraine, of which 904 were registered in April. The Chinese BYD became the most popular brand with a share of 33.8% in the new car market. It is followed by Volkswagen (22.2%) and Zeekr (almost 16%). Among the models, BYD Song Plus became the leader — 170 registered cars. Volkswagen ID.UNYX is in second place (148 cars), Audi Q4 e-tron took third place with 74 units.
In April, imports of used electric cars made up 57.3% of the total volume — this is more than the combined volume of domestic resales and sales of new cars. In total, 4,704 such cars arrived in Ukraine, which is 40.6% more than last year, although 0.9% less than in March.
Most often, Tesla electric cars were imported from abroad – they accounted for almost a third of all imported cars. In second place is Nissan, mainly thanks to the Leaf model. Third place went to Hyundai with the Ioniq and Kona models, which gave the brand a share of more than 10%.
Among specific models, the most added to the fleet was the Tesla Model Y, which overtook the previous perennial leader, the Nissan Leaf. Third place goes to the Tesla Model 3. The average age of imported electric cars in April was 5.1 years — the lowest among all categories of used vehicles.
As of April 30, 2025, there are 158,600 vehicles with an electric drive (BEV) in Ukraine, excluding industrial machines, trolleybuses and rail transport. Of these, 154,200 are passenger cars, 3,400 are trucks, six electric buses and about a thousand units of electric motor vehicles are also registered.
In March, 4,680 battery-powered vehicles were added to the Ukrainian fleet, and Chinese electric vehicles remain the most popular among Ukrainian buyers.
