In Ukraine, they plan to direct water from the Dnieper to Saksagan

Ukraine plans to build a 30-kilometer water pipeline to ensure the supply of water to the critically shallow Makortiv Reservoir on the Saksagan River. About this reported Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.

The goal of the project is to restore the water balance of the river, which plays a key role for Kryvyi Rih, as well as to provide drinking water to more than 1.4 million residents who suffered as a result of the Russian troops undermining the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant.

After the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam and due to the use of water for the city’s water supply, the water level in the Makortiv Reservoir dropped to 19.6 million cubic meters below the norm of 57.8 million. In the event of a prolonged drought, natural restoration of reserves can take up to ten years.

Other reservoirs on this river — Kresivske and Saksaganske — are under the constant influence of highly mineralized mine waters, which worsens their condition. Therefore, the option of building a new water pipeline that will supply Dnieper water from the Kamian Reservoir to the Saksagani River is being considered. Currently, negotiations with potential donors about financing the initiative are ongoing.

“Implementation of the project will make it possible to fill the Makortiv reservoir, improve water quality to meet the needs of residents within the Saksagan river basin, and also fill wells in farms that are not covered by centralized water supply.” – emphasized the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Grynchuk.
